Your IP address
216.73.217.55
IPv4Connection details
Every site you visit sees this IP. A VPN replaces it with the server's address instead.

What your IP address reveals
Your public IP is assigned by your internet provider and attached to every request your device sends. Before you click anything or log in, every server you connect to already knows this address.
From it, a server can determine your country, roughly which city you are in, your ISP or mobile carrier, and whether you are on a home connection, a mobile network, or a VPN. City-level accuracy is around 60–80% in urban areas and lower in rural ones. It shows a general area, not your street address.
Public IP vs. private IP
The address shown above is your public IP, the one your router presents to the internet. Inside your home or office, each device also has a private IP (usually something like 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x) that is only visible on your local network. External servers never see your private IP.
If you are on a mobile network, your public IP may be shared with thousands of other subscribers through carrier-grade NAT.
What the ASN field means
Every IP block on the internet is assigned to an Autonomous System (AS), which is the network operated by your ISP, a cloud provider, or a large company. The ASN is the unique identifier for that network. When you see something like AS7922 Comcast, that tells you the IP block belongs to Comcast. VPN and cloud IPs show the provider's name instead of your real ISP.
How to hide your IP address
A VPN is the most practical option for most people. Your traffic routes through a VPN server and websites see that server's IP instead of yours. Your ISP only sees an encrypted connection to the VPN, not which sites you visit.
Tor routes your traffic through three volunteer-operated relays, which provides stronger anonymity but is significantly slower. Proxies work for browser traffic only and typically offer less privacy than a VPN.
